When you need to selectively cleanup your iPhone photo library you can do this the best way by connect your iPhone to your Mac, and use the Image Capture app. Here you can easily select the photos in the camera roll and delete them all at once. You can also select the kind, size or date! and easily delete all these screen captures or movies that took up to much space!
Notes and tips
I love QuickLook, it's the fastest way to peak and copy from files. But not all file's open in QuickLook and text files need the .txt extension for QuickLook to work. Lucky you can extend QuickLook with plugins and QLStephen has the excellent QuickLook plugin that lets you view plain text files without a file extension. Files like: README, INSTALL, CHANGELOG, INFO etc...
And even text files with extensions like .info .install .inc are readable! Great work :) http://whomwah.github.io/qlstephen/
Whenever working with lots of folders and files you maybe had to close multiple folders in a list view all at once, founding out that there is no key combo for that!?
There is no real key combo for this but you can achieve it in two easy steps:
1. select all: ⌘+A
2. press left arrow: ←
When you started with OS X Photos it will create a new library (Photos Library.photoslibrary) and migrate your old iPhoto library (iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary). So when you are fine with using only Photos you can safely delete it iPhoto and the iPhoto library to free up some harddisk space. To be save I moved the iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary to an external drive.
Save space (and time) with your Time Machine backups:
- Open a Finder window and go to your Mac's Hard Drive
- Open System Preferences > Time Machine, then click Options
- Drag the System folder from your Mac's hard drive into the "Exclude these items from backup" section
- OS X will prompt you to exclude other related items, including system applications. You probably don't need those core items since they come preinstalled in OS X anyway, and your initial and potentially future backups won't take as much time.
When Safari 8 becomes unresponsive, partially loading pages etc there are some things you can de do test before reinstalling ..
Ever need to create a bootable install USB for your mac?

With the recent release of Yosemite there are some connections problems and errors with the appleTV. Home sharing would not connect with iTunes 12 on Yosemite.
There is a very easy and simple fix to resolve this;
On your Mac go to the system preferences, select 'Sharing' and change the Computer Name.
That's all! Start iTunes and home sharing should work again on your Apple TV!
Recently i was having some problems with iTunes 12 on Yosemite and iTunes wouldn't respond after a while or iTunes would just crash when playing a podcast or search the iTunes store.
But there is a simple fix via the terminal following this kb article from Apple for resetting the Sync services :
Fix from apple:
OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 and Later
defaults delete com.apple.SyncServer SyncServicesResetWorldRunOnce
With the update to OS X Yosemite the current versions of MAMP application might throw an error stating that it failed to start Apache.
To fix this you have to change envvars to _envvars in: Applications/MAMP/bin/apache2/bin/ or /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/
Go to Applications -> MAMP -> bin -> apache2 -> bin folder, find 'envvars' file and rename it to '_envvars'.
With the release of iOS 8 and the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus there will be a lof of users merging from Android to iOS. Apple released a support document to assist those who need some help switching from Android to iOS.
Apple suggests Android users can transfer photos, videos, books, and music from Android devices to iPhones using iTunes on a Mac or PC, giving step-by-step instructions. The document also walks users through transferring various documents to iCloud, which can then be opened in Pages, Keynote, and Numbers via iCloud and on iOS devices using the three apps.
Sometimes when sharing a display to the appleTV via Airplay, audio will not play over Airplay.
This is an annoying bug...
To fix in 15 sec. :
open the terminal and type: (you will be restarting core-audio)
sudo killall coreaudiod
start airplay, et voila, the audio is there!
Cut all the cables but still want to watch the world cup live?
Just use the hola extension for firefox or chrome to spoof your location!
Need the ~Library folder back in your home folder?
In OS X Mavericks, Apple made it easy to do so. Navigate to your home folder and hit CMD+J to pull up the “View Options” window. You’ll notice a great addition to the palette: "Show Library Folder" !!
It’s that simple – and we're glad to see someone at Apple recognizes that people want access to the Library folder without having to jump through a lot of hoops!!
I love Siri and want to use it more but I don't really..
What can I ask Siri apart from setting the timer and calling my friends?
Following apple's page: "Siri. Your wish is its command. Siri lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. Ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean, and even talks back. Siri is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it."
So here are some links to make better use of Siri
